10 Tech Terms Out for 2010

2010cal 10 Tech Terms Out for 2010As we look forward to 2010, I’d like to propose a very serious list of 10 terms that we should no longer use beginning on January 1, 2010. Feel free to leave your list of even more serious terms that are out for ‘10 in the comments. You can also agree with my list or attempt a veto on any term.

Term #1 – “I’m At…”

No one cares where you at. Even if you think your mother really cares when you are at Pinkberry, she doesn’t.

Term #2 – “Platform”

Everything is a damn platform today. Facebook has a platform, Twitter has a platform, apparently NonSociety wanted to be a platform and we even launched our own platform back in 2007.

Term #3 – “Realtime”

There’s actually no such thing as real-time because everything has a delay. And my guess is that by the end of 2010 most people would rather have their burger cooked completely rather than get e.coli each time they sit down for a meal.

Term #4 – “Semantic Web”

Not much to say here – this term really tried to take off in 2008 but never made it. Let’s say our prayers and put it to sleep. No one knew what it meant anyway.

Term #5 – “Scraper”

Ok, this one is a dream of mine but it’d be great if the scraper sites were removed from Google and died before the deep melt of the snow in North Dakota.

Term #6 – “App”

Everything is an app – nuff said.

Term #7 – “API”

API API API API API API API API API API API – ok, got it out of my system. Just wait until those who say they care about the ecosystem show how much they care.

Term #8 – “Netbook”

I saw an ad today for a 17″ laptop that called itself a netbook. I’m looking forward to watching the netbook trial on Judge Judy. You just know she will lay down the smack with a, “beauty fades, dumb is forever”.

Term #9 - “Sharing”

See #1 above and replace “I’m at” with “sharing”. I’ve actually heard of people who sit around all day and just share things. What if they put that time to good use? Clearly the health care bill would be passed, my health care insurance wouldn’t have gone up $1,000 for 2010 and we’d be under double-digit unemployment.

Term #10 – “Social Media”

We already know that every human is a social media expert which is a bigger group than the SEO experts group from 1999-2000 (and that was a biggie!). Here’s hoping next year we will find a new batch of experts. My guess is that they will be “location experts”.

Tomorrow we will take a look at three companies that will be acquired in 2010.
